Questionnaire

I am creating a questionnaire to find out feedback from my fellow peers, to know if what i am doing is right and going according to plan. If my masthead is liked by my peers then I won't do much to edit it, although if there is much that I need to do then I will change it according to the results.

Completed Masthead

This is my completed masthead which some of the influence has been taken from the rock magazine 'Kerrang' which also has white lines going through the masthead. I think that this is an appropriate masthead, although I may do a survey to check if this would be appropriate.

Masthead

I have firstly opened up the Fireworks application that was on my computer, and I have started to plan my masthead which will be the name I have chosen 'Zeppelin'. I have firstly written the name in block capitals to make the masthead stand out, and I am chosing to use the appropriate colours that I have done research about which are RED and BLACK.

Then I start to go through various different fonts that might be appropriate to the theme of my magazine. To do this you select the drop down menu and select your font.

2.

Then I am going to look through the two colours that I have chosen and play around to see what various effects that I can create through the use of colours.

The creation of front page

Before creating my front cover I need to do some research into the 'masthead', so I am going to look at others that are already in use:

The main colours that are used on the music mastheads are black and red, which would possibly be appropriate for my masthead with keeping to the 'rock' theme.

Editing the Front Cover picture

1.

Firstly I have Auto Fixed the picture and also edited the contrast and brightness, to enhance the colours in the picture, making the models hair also look brighter and the dress that she is wearing.

2.

Secondly I have air brushed the face and hands of the model, and I have also opacity the photo to make it look more distorted.
This has completed the first stages of editing for my magazine, the front cover picture is now done, and I will now focus on the contents page photo, which is the male model.

Magazine names

This is a list of various magazine names I am considering for my Music Magazine. I want my magazine to have a 'cool' and unique name that will stand out against other magazines.

I hacve chosen the name for my magazine to be  'Zeppelin' named after the band Led Zeppelin, because it sticks to the classical rock theme and it is also announcing that it has good music inside.

Define zeppelin:
  • Ferdinand Adolf August Heinrich, Count von (1838–1917), German aviation pioneer. He developed the dirigible airship.
  • A large German dirigible airship of the early 20th century, long and cylindrical in shape and with a rigid framework.
I think that the word 'zeppelin' is really cool and it works better than I expected because of the rock bands name.

Experimental Editing... (female model)

Start the process off by uploading the photo to the website

once the photo has been uploaded, start editing, I like the photo the way it is although, some experimental editing might make it look slightly better.

Autofix

The autofix has enhiced the colours in the photo which makes it look brighter and more focused. The colours in the models hair makes the photo look brighter and it emphasises the model more.

Circle Bokeh

Taking off Autofix and making the photo look more edited, although I think it enhances the colours, however not as much as the autofix has.

Retro

The retro effect makes the photo look more unique and original, the colours aren't as bright as they were before.

Photo Shoot with Female Model (Katie Collins)

Model: Katie Collins
Camera: Canon EOS 60D
Location: Idsall School
Test shot without flash

I wanted my female shoot to be spontaneous and free, which was exactly what it was. I really enjoyed  photographing Katie, and I believe that these photo's will work really well with my rock magazine. I chose this particular model for my magazine because not only does Katie have the exact look that I am going for, but she also is a musician and during the photo shoot and the planning I truly believed that I was photographing a celebrity; this helped initial production because I got much more passionate and protective over the shoot and the whole concept.

Katie is wearing a purple dress, which I mainly wanted to feature in my magazine because of the colour purple; I want my magazine to feature the following tones and colours; purples, blues, blacks, whites and reds. These are the colour conventions that you would expect to find in a rock magazine, and I believe that this would make my magazine not only look more original but also more professional.
